ornate brass? pendant/medal.inscription on back R.A.O.B 1888.fancy lettering on front in risen circle.?

The medal approx 2"long1half" wide with what look like compass points arround inner circle which looks to have been plugged from the back with copper? stopper.letters in inner circle could be G,L,E intertwined ontop of each other.whole outter shape hard to describe kinda 4 leaf clover with spikes inbetween each leaf.looks possiblie like there could be something hidden behind the plug on back,havent removed for fear of damaging item before i no what it is.purchased this item from tatt shop in oldham approx 15yrs ago was in bit box. just curious to what it is especialy with date 1888.

What a surprise, I`m from Oldham. Sounds like it it is a medallion from the Royal Antedeluvian Order of Buffaloes.
The GLE refers to Grand Lodge of England, but the date of 1888 will make it rather rare, I`m not saying sell the house and buy a new one, but probabnly a bob or two.
It`s a while since I left Oldham, but there was the RAOB Lodge on Henshaw Street,just up from the town before Crompton St, don`t know if it is still open, this was the main Lodge in the Oldham area. If it is still open, you would not be allowed admittance to a lodge, but someone there may know of it`s origin.
I`ll have a think about it and if you find ought let me know.
Is there a number, probably upto 6 digits, this will identify which Lodge it was awarded at.
