identify these rocks!?
its dark, it lookes igneous but it has like little circle things all over it. the circles are the size of coarse snad grain. and i was thinking oolites. which would mean im looking at a carbonate rock and notan igne. its also go a line of what looks to be quartz through it.or marble..
sample2:
it got coral fossil but its white and bubblyish. it looks like marble or quarts, but can it be a carbonate limestone?
get yourself some hydrochloric acid. You can rule out most carbonates if you scratch it and apply the acid. Igneous rocks with overgrown crystals are called phenocrysts, and are remnants of the rock that was melted to form it. And you can also tell oolites because they are laminated in cross section (they grow similar to how a hale stone forms in a storm cloud). The second is a mineralized fracture zone that is not related to the initial rock formation, but happened later.
If its a fossil then you can rule out most quartz. Marble will also give the positive acid test. Gas bubbles (aka vugs in sedimentary rocks. or fluid inclusions in minerals) are not uncommon and are frequently infilled with another mineral. I would check for the other characteristics of a colonial or horn coral, plus the location of collection before I would determine it as phenistrate. A common mistake is to call a bryzoian as a coral, but they are distinctly different animals.
