Will rhodium plating to a white gold ring add karats to the gold when tested?
I have a white gold ring, purchased as 18K, and even stamped "18K" but when I took it in to be appraised I was told that the gold tested at 12K. I also know that my ring is in dire need of rhodium plating, which I am having done now. After the rhodium plating, will it be 18K, or was I just scammed and it will always be 12K?
Well, gold is mix of metals, & depending on certain amount from each metal, carat/purity is calculated. For white gold, there r Nickel white golds & Palladium white golds.
Plating is just a finishing step, it's not gold! If u have a 12K piece, it'll always stay 12K.
