Is there any way to make a non sterling silver ring not turn a different color?

I have some rings that I want to give to my friend but they aren't sterling silver. I've heard you can put clear nail polish on it but is there anything else i can do?

do you have any pva glue in your house.
a thin layer of this will do the job i do it all the time.it drys out clear and leaves it shiny without the colour going away!
