Is there a way to make the band of my engagement ring wider?
My engagement ring is an antique 1920's white gold and diamond ring and the band is a bit to thin for me. It was my grandmother's, I think that when it was re-sized to an 8 for me that maybe it got too thin. Is there any way to make the band thicker?
Anytime you size it you need to ask for them to add gold so it doesn't get thinner. Yes, the answerer is correct you can have them add 1/2 a shank or an entire shank. Look at wedding bands and decide how thick you want it to be 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm. Then have it measured to see how thin it is. As long as the band isn't etched it won't be a problem. This is not cheap. I added 1/2 a shank 10 years ago, and it was 90 dollars, and it was yellow gold. White gold will need to be redipped which is an additional charge around 15 dollars.
