how much is 10kt. gold genuine diamond .25 t.w. necklace worth?

my ex boyfriend got me this diamond necklace and i dont want it anymore its 4-5 years old and im having some financial problems the chain is broken on it it was almost $300 but i was just wondering if anyone had an estimate of how much i could get out of it at the jewelry store. it's a heart shaped necklace and it has diamonds around the heart. its still in good condition just the chain is broken i dont want to get $20 for it i was expecting a little bit more but just some ideas before i got and check it out. i've never done this before but like i said im short on money and i dont wear it its just sitting around. any info would be great thanks in advance!

Twenty dollars is way too low! The broken chain is irrelevant, and can be sold for scrap gold, but the diamond itself is where the money is if it's a good quality diamond. Most places will give you a market trade ($300-$400) for the diamond if you're buying another piece of jewelry from them, but if you just need the cash, consider talking with a jewelry wholesaler. If you can wait it out, hang onto it until things are a little more stable and trade it in for a gorgeous piece of jewelry to reaffirm your bad self. I sold an old engagement ring and turned it into my wedding ring when I remarried, and it was such a satisfying moment!
